The way former FTX executive Ryan Salame prepares to start his 7.5-year prison sentence has surprised the crypto community. His recent social media updates sparked a wave of memes and jokes among industry figures and community members, who shared their thoughts about his unconventional LinkedIn post.

Former FTX Exec Goes From LinkedIn To LockedIn

Ryan Salame, former co-chief executive officer at FTX Digital Markets, took to LinkedIn to share his new status with his colleagues. In a bizarre update, the former FTX executive โ€œhappilyโ€ announced his new position as an inmate at FCI Cumberland.

Salame also updated his profile to add โ€œcleaning and whittlingโ€ as his new skill set. The โ€œbanger post,โ€ as Alex Lieberman called it, quickly gathered the communityโ€™s attention, with many sharing playful and witty responses to the peculiar post.

โ€œFrom LinkedIn to LockedIn,โ€ read one of the replies. Another response jokingly remarked that the executive went from โ€œblockchains to being in chains,โ€ while another replied that Salame โ€œdoesnโ€™t want any gap on his resume.โ€

The former FTX executive also took X to lament losing his Wordle streak as he prepares for his 7.5-year prison sentence, scheduled to start on October 11. He acknowledged the virality of his post, noting he โ€œlearned that people still use LinkedInโ€ yesterday.

US Judge Denies Request For Surrender Date Delay

According to court documents, Salameโ€™s team requested another delay to his surrender date. The Wednesday court filing asked US Judge Lewis A. Kaplan to push the report date from October 11 to December 7, citing the need to โ€œcontinuing medical treatment deemed necessary by his treating physician to recover from the injuries sustained on or about June 19, 2024.โ€

In June, the former FTX executive suffered a dog bite injury to the face, which led to his original prison report date being pushed from August 29 to this Friday as he had to undergo the necessary medical treatment and surgery.

Federal prosecutors slammed Salameโ€™s petition in a letter sent to the judge on Thursday, arguing that the โ€œeleventh-hour requestโ€ didnโ€™t offer a compelling justification to extend his surrender date a second time.

Moreover, the prosecutors highlighted that Salameโ€™s previous request was granted before he admitted to lying under oath.FTX

As reported by Bitcoinist, Judge Kaplan expressed his frustration at the former FTX executive for providing a โ€œfalse testimonyโ€ during his guilty plea in 2023. The US judge also threatened to impose sanctions on Salame during the September court hearing.

On Thursday, the courtย deniedย Salameโ€™s surrender date request, largely agreeing with the prosecutorsโ€™ argument suggesting โ€œthe outlined medical treatmentโ€”which follows already-completed necessary medical treatment and surgeryโ€”seems largely cosmetic and nonurgent.โ€

As a result, Judge Kaplan concluded that Salame must surrender today, no later than 2:00 pm, as scheduled.
