A Dogecoin (DOGE) influencer has sounded the alarm about a scam attack targeting members of the DOGE community. The influence has issued a critical warning about a new fraudulent social media account posing as the Dogecoin Foundation.
Dogecoin Impersonation Scam Discovered
On August 17, a DOGE influencer identified as ‘Inevitable360’ took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce a new scam attempt on the Dogecoin community. The influencer exclaimed that a fraudulent account on X had been impersonating the official DOGE Foundation’s X account.
The Dogecoin Foundation is a non-profit foundation dedicated to facilitating and promoting DOGE’s technical development and value. Due to the foundation’s influence and rising popularity on social media platforms, it has become a target for scammers looking to exploit the trust and enthusiasm of members of the DOGE community.
According to Inevitable360, the account impersonating has been mimicking the Foundation’s X profile, using similar branding and messaging to lure unsuspecting DOGE investors into potential scams. The Dogecoin influencer also shared a screenshot of the impersonator’s X account which has already garnered over 69,300 followers.
A crypto member has alleged that the account first built its follower base and secured verification under a different identity before later rebranding to impersonate the Dogecoin Foundation.
In light of the ongoing scam, Inevitable360 has urged the Dogecoin community to report the fake account in order to prevent investors from falling victim to the fraudulent schemes. This will also help raise awareness in the DOGE community and potentially dissuade other potential scam activities.
Meme Coin Communities Face Rising Scam Attacks
Meme coin communities have been facing an alarming increase in scam attacks, putting investors and community members at risk. As meme coins like Dogecoin and Shiba Inu (SHIB) grow in popularity, the number of fraudulent schemes targeting their communities continues to grow.
Dogecoin has witnessed a significant amount of scam attacks, ranging from phishing attacks, impersonations, and other scam attempts. On the other hand, Shiba Inu has also alerted community members of various scam activities targeting SHIB investors.
In an X post on August 18, the Shiba Inu scam tracker, Shibarmy Scam Alerts alerted community members about the presence of fraudulent sites and malicious individuals attempting to scam SHIB investors. Due to the rising scam activities in the meme coin space, Shibarmy Scam Alerts has outlined ways for investors to protect themselves against scam attempts.
The SHIB tracker has stressed the importance of keeping crypto wallet private keys safe at all times. Additionally, investors should always verify websites and links before giving up any sensitive information, as scammers often create fake websites or impersonate some.
Lastly, the Shiba Inu tracker has urged investors to continually report suspicious scam activities immediately to platform administrators, and if necessary to law enforcement agencies. Additionally, investors should endeavor to stay vigilant and protect their crypto assets from malicious scammers.
